Borrego Sculptures

On one of our recent motorcycle trips, we rode out to Borrego Springs; one of our favorite rides. Borrego is south of Palm Springs in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. On the ride out, we cross over the Wolf Creek and San Jacinto earthquake fault lines. It's clearly evident that there have been earthquakes in the area when you first turn on to the Borrego-Salton Seaway Road; the road ripples like a ribbon that's being ruffled in the wind. It's such a beautiful ride! The jagged hills, the ocotillo leafing out, the general desert landscape.

We took one of the turns out of town once in Borrego, and were greeted by the most unusual metal sculptures! Elephants, horses, giant birds; we had to stop! After doing some research, I discovered that the sculptures were commissioned by Dennis Avery, you can read about him and the project here: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/northcounty/20080426-9999-1m26beasts.html and here http://www.galletameadows.com/. We've made the same trip many times, but this time it was extra special due to the added scenery!
